Halloween is my least favorite holiday but kids love it so I pretend to love it and all that pretending turned out to be a pretty great day!
I kept our day in 2nd grade as close to schedule as possible with little bits of Halloween sprinkled in. Each morning when the kids come in I have instrumental music playing. There are all types of YouTube videos with classical music to different backgrounds. It’s been wonderful. The kids love it and it’s very calming while they work in their morning workbooks. So on this morning I played some Classical Halloween music while the kids colored.
For Writer’s Workshop we took a break from our writing folders for this fun writing prompt: If My Teacher Turned Into a Witch…oh the kids loved it! They came up with the most creative, funniest responses.
After music we made a fun Halloween snack. The hard part is the kids had to save the snack for later because it was almost lunch time. 🙂
After lunch we still had our Daily 5 reading rotations. After last recess I had from the chapter book “The Witches” and then we played Halloween Bingo. After a couple rounds of Bingo we watched “The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” and ate our fun snacks. It was a great day in 2nd grade. I think the kids really loved it.
After school it was time for Halloween with my own boys. We had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa’s house and then headed out to go trick or treating. Joshua was Pikachu and Grady was a skeleton.
We just walked up and down our block and then headed for bed. I like to keep this trick-or-treating deal fairly simple. Remember, Halloween hater over here.
And Halloween 2018 is in the books!
