Motherhood Is…Suffocating. Let’s be real for a minute…motherhood isn’t always as wonderful as we portray it to be on social media. In pictures it looks like everyday is full of smiles, cuddles, joy and funny moments. And while motherhood is indeed an abundance of all of these things, it is also what I describe as suffocating. When you feel like you just can’t catch your breath. When all you want to do is take your time in the shower letting the warm water relax your tired muscles and just enjoy a few minutes of solitude when in reality you’re washing the shampoo out of your hair as fast as possible (forget shaving!) because the baby is crying and the big brother is getting into only God knows what. It’s wanting to eat a hot meal with both hands at your leisurely enjoyment instead of trying to eat cold food one-handed while bouncing an unsatisfied baby on your knee. Why is it that dinner time brings out the worst in small children? It’s spending all day attending to a sick child, finally getting them into bed for the night, waking every half hour because they can’t sleep and finally bringing them into bed with you… by morning you realize you’ve gone 24 hours without a single second to yourself.
You can’t catch your breath. You feel suffocated.
